In our rush to plan special trips to places we've never seen before, setting up our photography gear and making plans to what landmarks to shoot when we get there, we skip something that's right in front of our eyes and, most of the time, underrated: our area of living. Call it quarter, sector, district, region, community, locality, territory, commune, neighborhood, arrondissements, suburbs. This assignment is about photographing your own neighborhood. So pick up your camera and go explore your surroundings, we would like to see your local treasures such as:Local landmarksDon't take it literally. Landmarks could be those little things that really define your neighborhood. They could be a historical house, a museum, an old gas station, that big clock sitting at a crossroads, your weekend marketplace, a quiet street corner, a clock tower, a roadside diner, a little bookstore, a street sign, the butcher's store, an old market hall, a flea market, an old nonfunctional beer factory, an abandoned palace, or a special garden. And why not, a landmark could be the oldest tree that you always decorate as the Christmas tree in your neighborhood. Familiar landscapesHow does your on-your-way-to-work looks like? Maybe you walk across a park or a nice hidden street. If you live in a commune in the countryside, go to the outskirts and capture the landscapes with the hills, the mountains, the forests, the lakes. Show us the railway or your village seen from above. Back in town, you might as well shoot from a roof to show us a panorama of the area or the main street view. It must look amazing covered in snow.Local and familiar activitiesIf you live in the suburbs, show us how the locals socialize: weekend get-togethers whether they are barbecue parties, children play-dates, or family gatherings. Offer us the privilege to see how your cultural activities take place: concerts, local fairs, festivals. Winter holidays are coming, so it would be nice to see how your town is preparing to welcome them. Other local activities might include kids soccer game. You can show us how it looks like in your community. Photograph people's faces and the way they interact.Time of dayYour neighborhood has a special aura in a certain time of day? It's the golden hour or they're simply magical at nighttime. Take your camera and invite us to see the colors of the twilight in your town or how the snow sparkles when the night falls. To all of the above, focus on small, provincial town details that make some places so quaint and appealing: a facade of a building, how flowers are arranged in a flower shop, the corner view of a street, how merchants arrange their goods. It's them who can make your image stand out. Whoever paints the most authentic portrait of their neighborhood has a chance to win $300 (first place), $200 (second place) and $100 (the third place) along with a branded t-shirt.Upload both Royalty Free and Editorial files as follows and mark them as "assignment files":1. upload the image via FTP or via upload page. The image is now in your unfinished files, please do not edit the image from the unfinished files folder at all, instead go to the next step.2. go to assignment page, choose escalate to level 5 or sell the rights option and hit submit.3. choose the file you will be submitting to the assignment from the row of already uploaded images under the assignment text.4. continue upload as usual.Go local!Start submitting
